Good buy on finding those S mirrors. Anxious to hear of your further updates.

This is really world-wide-part-procurement, these came out of Singapore. Chrome plating in Germany is getting difficult, because of enviromental requirements smaller go-to companies gave up and the ones that survive you have a long waiting list (I'm very impatient) , the oldtimer hype takes it toll. I do power coating myselt for parts that fit my oven and there is a chrome plating powder I used as an interim solution on my 750SEI for one headlamp bracket and rim. I gave it a try on the rusty radiator bumper that does not fit my oven so i had to splitt the process.
Of course you wont get a 100% shiny spotless chrom surface but hey it's not too bad for now.

Of course you wont get a 100% shiny spotless chrom surface but hey it's not too bad for now. That's not bad at all. I didn't know this type of finish was an option with powder coating. Well done on the S mirrors as well. There were quite a few NOS ones coming out of Indonesia some years back but they always had some minor light rust.

Small update on my RE5. I am not doing a concours bike here, just a clean bike that has most of it's original parts.
I will leave the green cover although it has millions of these micro cracks, but it's original. The rear wheel came out quiet nice, now I need to make the GL rim an RE5 one.

Coming along nicely. I remember those days! So much work.
Love the way you've got the bike supported with engine crane and small table sans wheels. Clever.

This is the reason for the crane: Some years ago my CBR250RR dropped of the table

Wow! Ouch. It happens. A friend's bike, cant' recall the make, dropped off and landed completely upside down crushing the instruments.

That didn't work, as the GL has 40 spokes. Have not done any lacing before, so that was a new adventure and that link helpt me quite a lot (which I should have consulted MUCH ealier). So I spend the greater part of the weekend working on that wheel , polishing, lacing, assembling....

Your front wheel really came out nice. I always liked the DID or Takasago wheels.

As usual a lot of elbow grease involved with these old bikes.
It still has the noise reduction.

Most of the work is done, put a fuel switch on, cause I read here that there might be a problem when the bike sits for a long time.
I drained the oils and found the previous owner did not follow the “one oil for everything” rule. Transmission was some redish and metering tank kind of bluish stuff. Now I need to make up my mind which route I am going to take.

Coming together nicely! And yes, the fuel switch is a good idea.
