Zebulon
Just a word of cation about the trans. oil level screw. I had thought that level screw would be an acurate indication of the oil level also when my RE was lossing sump oil and thought that it was going into the trans. That level screw will indicate oil is present in the trans. but if bled off to that screw level with the bike on the center stand the trans. will be at about half of the recomended oil volume. Riding the bike with the oil at the oil level screw will cause trans. and primary chain damage. ( You can guess how I know ). I think most sump oil consumtion can be traced to the gas blow by check ball system. How it works is describe in detail in the service manual. There was a check ball spring change some where in production that helped with oil consuption. I can supply more detail if anyboby wants to know.
Brian Make sure no scratches on the ball or seat.

Spring length from memory is 12 mm. At this point with your oil consumption 14mm spring length is a safe bet.
I would Completely compress it a few times and re check free length. Double check the ball seat. Tim
P.S. If I may, follow new engine break-in, (seat-in) drive steady and bring along more oil on a ride if you have to.

Too long?

Too long? I am not an expert, please get authorization by your engine builder. I would have no problem installing it if it reduces your oil consumption. Tim Interested to hear of the before and after oil consumption. I say a steady throttle as that keeps the blow -by pressure behind the seals.

This is what’s in right now, I don’t have another spring.

So as this is not even specified in the manual and no expert is commenting, this spring spec is absolute irrelevant then?!

So as this is not even specified in the manual and no expert is commenting, this spring spec is absolute irrelevant then?! Good Morning Zebulon,
I understand your anxiety, That spring is a most important component of the complete RE5 oiling and proper compression designed package.
11 mm is too weak.
12 to 14 is called for.
Your spring should be just fine IMHO

Thank you Tim, I will do more trips if weather permits and I am in the mood for RE5 test driving, hoping that oil consumption will just disappear at some point 😳

Hi Zebulon: I have the Suzuki Rotary Service Bulletin notes in which is handwritten a comment about the blowby spring. It says "blowby relief valve spring 14mm - longer spring". These were written by a technician perhaps during the Suzuki RE5 course so if this is correct then it indicates that your 14.71mm length is good.
Hopefully that is helpful information.
Al

Thank you Al, well, everything surrounding the engine seems to be within specs as well. just in case I updated CDI and regulator/rectifier.
