Guys I am still around.
That purchase was/is a rollercoaster. The bike is finally on it's way to me. I got a video from the load. Hope that part will go smooth. In the meantime I sourced some parts that are missing or aren' t original like the oilfilter. I found NOS in Finnland. The left rear handle came from the US and the small black chainguard extension is on the way from NewZealand.
Of course there are some more things to do. I will post pictures when I have it, not the ones I have, maybe at the end it's a scam after all.....

Beautiful machine Zebulon! The chrome looks to be in great condition. Beautiful garage as well! What kind of mirrors are those on the RE5?

Thank you guys. The bike is in good order, it has pitting though. The taillight housing and one turn signal need to be redone, maybe rechrome or polish? Radiator chrome guard as well. May be I can buff out some of the pitting elsewhere. The front wheell shows aluminum oxidation.
It has a NGK spark plug, so I guess it has an adapter?!
I will take the bike apart down to the frame and make it nice and clean.
Honestly I don't like the mirrors and looking for the "S"-version. I bought one already but it has the GT750 thread. Also I found a German brochure about the RE5, pretty rare I think. The other part of my man cave:

If you mean you bought a mirror with 8 mm thread instead of 10mm, no problems. Just buy a couple of 8 mm helicoil inserts. No drilling required. Just wind them down into the 10 mm threads on the RE5 and then fit your mirrors. In the future, if you need to go back to 10 mm, you can carefully pick at the end of the helicoil and unspool it from within your 10 mm thread and it's back to original.
I've done it, works a treat.

Thanks for the info on the mirrors Wayne! And yes, I have done the thread insert as well for the 8mm mirrors and it works great.
Very nice man cave Zebulon! Do I see an RC30 there?

I have a couple of unused plugs. What are they for?

The large connector you may know is for the speed relay for the decell points.
One other is an open connector I am guessing for a factory test on the assembly line. Mine
is attached to a bracket.
Looks like an aftermarket turn signal/blinker relay?
Beautiful under tank photo, mine is pretty dusty!

Disassembly weekend, I did a testdrive bevore, bike startet very well, hope that's the same afterwords
The bike had been restored in some way, frame is powercoated, unfortunately some of the coupler brackets are missing. It's not visible, but .... any offers?
The front wheel looks bad. I have a decend spare GL1000 front wheel. I just need to change the wheel hub.

Very nice. Not to worry, some brackets were deleted at the factory on later production. The bracket secures at the ground screw and probably better ground contact without the bracket, less weight ,too. Does the GL wheel require a larger tire? Not sure on how much extra clearance there is. Tim

I just want it nice and tidy, maybe I make my own brackets. Rim size is the same on both bikes 1.85x19, RE5 uses a smaler tire 3.25 instead of 3.50.

Thanks Wayne, as I was looking for a left one I came across a set of OEMs 10mm and couldn't resist.
