I startet my journey putting back my RE5 this weekend. I also have to swap the clutch cover and moved everything over. i disassembled the water pump many weeks ago and forgot to make a picture of the oil seal orientation. Wayne‘s picture doesn’t tell it either, does it matter?

. Wayne‘s picture doesn’t tell it either, does it matter? It does matter. Wait for some better pictures if not sure. The waterpump oil seal should face the transmision oil. The engine oil pump seal must open up to the oil pump. Caution as to using a too large O ring at the distributor, too.

Wayne‘s picture doesn’t tell it either, does it matter? Believe us, it does matter! I should take another picture of that assembly and angle the oil seal so you can see better.

Understood. So far, it’s going back together nicely, fingers 🤞.

A picture I took for refenrence before I took it apart. Experts will notice.... I didn't and found it by coincidence while scanning the book AFTER I put everything back. As I was told by Michel, someone has (badly) rebuild this engine and got it wrong everywhere. So another new gasket ordered!

The thermostat is wrongly mounted, the little hole should be on top ;-)

I timed the clutch cover as described in the manual, but I don’t get the timing within spec. I need to exceed the oblong hole by taking out all screws in order to get to around 8°. I am only able to get 13°. Do I really take that dam clutch cover off again?? What else I can do?

Yes too advanced, gap is to specification 0,45mm.

Yes too advanced, gap is to specification 0,45mm. Please bear with my silly questions. I have also seen .4mm or ,016 I would set to 5 degrees until the engine is all settled in before advancing. In your shop manual page 79 the points cam plate should say 13 and not 11. Others may have suggestions; I don't want you to have to pull the cover again either.

The roller is at mark „13“, wrong I guess?

You are right 13 is the corrected spot. I can't think of another reason, maybe others will have an idea.
I have not gotten one wrong yet, but I triple check and look at it head on several times.

Mmm, why does the manual say „11“? Then I need to pull the cover? I really made sure that all is according to the manual before installation, page 15/16. Is it common that the timing gear moves while putting the cover back on?
