Hi I’m fixing to start restoring a 75 M and it’s got a red light in the place of the S emblem and it’s got a small decal above it that says something in Japanese. Any insight will be greatly appreciated. And can’t seam to figure out how to post a picture. I can Email it of Facebook Messenger the picture. Thanks share.icloud.com/photos/0074B56-oJphYgi06LcBf2k1Q

Could be a Japanese spec speed warning light as used on many non-export spec bikes back in the day.
Normally a plastic push in Suzuki logo goes where that light is. The Japanese decal above the light shown, might give some insight.
I thought the RE5 was export only, would be interesting to share the Vin and Engine number on that bike.

re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/2942/trivia-questionThis is from one of my older post.
Early wiring diagram show wiring for a speed sensor and my early RE5 has the extra wires under the fuel tank ( for a relay ) and the extra wires in the head light.
Where is your bike from ? and would you share the frame V.I.N. My guess is it's very early.

I've worked on 10087, it didn't have the light. It was originally sold in the USA.
Would be interesting to know the VIN.

As you'd know I'm sure, that's a very late production bike, within a few hundred of end-of-production.
Also very unusual that it's an M (I'm assuming that's the bike in your profile picture?).
Do you know if it still has the automatic chain oiler? Just curious. It may narrow down if this was actually an M or a previous owner converted it back to an M from an A. Bikes leaving the factory at that high a frame number should have been A's. Back in the day, Cornell Suzuki who were the official importer in at least NSW Australia claimed that all were "in-factory" A's from around the 15650's and up.
I added your photo so that it shows within your post.
