Thanks for letting me become a member. I own a few Harley’s and I’ve restored a 76 GT550 that I still own. I collect old gas tanks and went to buy a pair and an RE5 was in the older gentleman’s garage. I couldn’t resist. Engine was changed in 09 but the owner never got it to start and lost interest. It came with original motor and a bunch of parts. I also bought another motor and carburetor and parts from another source I look forward to learning from all of you. An awesome group Phil

Welcome Phil.
I owned the 380 but never got to ride the 550. Always looked like a nice bike. The little 380 was so smooth at cruising speeds but I'd imagine the 550 had that plus some grunt.

I had a GT550 in college. I think it was called an Indy. It was very smooth and I put expansion chambers, air filters and a jet kit on it. Quite reliable and I loved the Ram Air scoop on the one piece cylinder head. I bought a 380 years later and it did not have the same power, but the six speed transmission was really slick. It also was dead reliable.
First Suzuki I had was a GT500, it was very nimble in the canyons, but the drum front brake was horrible.

Welcome to the forum Phil! Lots of good information here to get your RE5 running reliably. Looking forward to seeing pics of your progress. Where are you located?

Welcome Phil.
Non start may be as simple as a mis indexed timing/clutch cover. There is a video here, use a search.
P.S.I had a nice 72 Yellow 550,too... a real sweetheart.

I’m not the greatest at computers hopefully I’m doing this right. I’m from Quebec Canada. I’ve followed the threads on reviving a rotary and also Jess thread on compression test 128,126,116 is what I got. Also have taken the carb apart with the thread on disassembly. I’ll try to put up a few pictures if I can figure it out LOL
