Not as bad as it sounds. Save yourself a lot of mess by doing it with the bike on the sidestand. No matter how well you drain the oil, there's enough left to mess your shed floor once you crack the clutch housing away from the engine frame. Being on the sidestand will keep residual oil tipped to the left. Drain the oils, drain the coolant from both the radiator and the proper unit, right foot peg and brake lever off will make it easier, remove the gooseneck oil filter (big bolt approximately under the oil filter), a few more things and you'll have it off: See here for what bolts you don't need to remove to get the clutch cover off: re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/2895/clutch-cover-removal-quick-guideSometimes the gasket glues itself to the housings and it won't budge. See here for one way to crack the housing away from the rest of the engine (once you've double checked you've removed ALL the relevant bolts): re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/1131/distributor-helpSee here for JESS's guide to timing the gears once you're ready for reassembly: re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/3060/clutch-timing-phasing-setting-ignition

This from Wayne,
No matter how well you drain the oil, there's enough left to mess your shed floor once you crack the clutch housing away from the engine frame. This from my school notes: You'll need hip boots and a wet suit Tim

Tip from PMCBURNEY, leave the bike on the sidestand and it should minimise the amount of residual oil that ends up the shed floor.

Tip from PMCBURNEY, leave the bike on the sidestand and it should minimise the amount of residual oil that ends up the shed floor. Indeed. I've always had an oil pan under the bike, regardless. I usually collect about 250ml or so. There's an angle where no oil will spill - I reckon it's about 1 degree further over than the side stand allows...
