If you're interested in an exact replica of the RE5 seat cover, please note your interest by posting below. This Group Buy needs a minimum of six to proceed at a price of around $150 to $200 AU each. One of Australia's most fastidious and multiple award winning restorers (Mike Samootin) has been pulling down his spectacular RE5 restoration because he believes he made too many compromises. One of those is his AM seat cover. There are many available, none of them are exact matches. Mike has enlisted Australia's premier AM seat cover manufacturer to attempt this. He has another board member who is contributing an original seat cover and they will attempt to make a precise heat stamp replica. When I say precise, they will not only attempt to match width and length of the stamp pattern, but the curvature at the corners of the individual rectangle patterns and even the angle of the individual stitches. This sort of detail may suit you, it may not. I've also pointed out to Mike that some of the AM seat covers fail around the rear of the seat. They don't quite match the profile of the original. He assures me that this will be accounted for. On the right is a very nice example of an AM seat cover. It looks fantastic on the bike but next to an original, you can see the differences. Note also the slight untidiness at the rear.

I think he's working on the foam as well but not sure what will come of that. Will advise in the future.

I had my seat made and covered by Corbin , and they taped up the sides of the pan, and filled it with liquid foam that quickly changed to foam, then
they just trimmed it with electric knife or scissors. It was custom trimmed with me and the Misses then they covered it while we went for lunch!
My all time most comfortable seat. Maybe it was the GS rear shocks and the front fork dampening kit?

Will do Brian. I'll check up on Mike and see where he's at. He's a man after your own heart.......... One of Mike's other restorations. I sneaked this shot while "Old Bike Australia" magazine was doing the photo shoot for an article on the restoration:

It's been awhile but this has been progressing. Mike had the shop do up a seat using an original cover lent by a board member, another with Jess's seat cover (which, by the way, Mike thought was very good) and another by the shop.
He's pleased with what the shop has come up with and the seat covers are under construction. They're just waiting on the weld rods (which produce the pattern on the seats). He's prepaid for the seats and when finished will work out final cost.

Okay, these covers are finished. Mike had three seats made up, two with aftermarket seat covers and a third with an original cover. These were used to fine tune the best replica they could come up with. A lot of work has gone into them and pictures and details will be up soon.

Does it have the white Suzuki Logo on the back?

Of course. My friend is an absolute stickler. The new cover replicates as close as possible even the angles on the stitches and the curves on the sausages.
I've seen pictures of the finished product, just waiting for him to supply some good shots.
