Hi I’m wondering if my rear storage units are oem. The are whiteish but very good fitment. The “kit” took me many hours to get off. The parts were damn hard to remove with like bracket after bracket. I thought at the start some bobo stuff since it’s white on the fmo bike. However, looking at the first picture there is a with a white set in the picture on one of the bikes. So who knows, it didn’t have the top box but did have a rack which would fit one. Plus the bike has the double seat shown in a one of the pictures and a read back support(sissy bar?). Again, I literally know only what I read about on this forum pertaining to bikes. As I get into this I’ll prolly ask some numbnuts questions, lol don’t wack me on them.

That's a very good question. Wayne, are they OEM?

I've never seen white except in the brochure but they're listed as an option (or repainted by an owner). Put up some pictures Shane.
The seat was not listed as a Suzuki accessory but was an AM item (Mr Seats in CA was one supplier). Pretty popular though, so many old RE5's come up for sale sporting one of those.

Cool, I will put up some pics when I get a chance. I’m between a few jobs so the bikes are on timeout. Hopefully this weekend I’ll play with them again.

I just mounted an optional tall Gustafsson windshield I had ordered some time back. Must say I am quite happy both with the shipping and windshield quality. I had spoken to the kind folks there before I had ordered it and just saying, very happy. I had the short windshield and thought I had ought to check out the tall version before Summer sets in. Tim

Good to hear Tim. I need a new windshield and would like the taller one but with shipping the price would be in excess of $600 US. I'm currently looking at getting it made over here or having ago myself.

What would be a fair price for an original optional re5 fairing and windscreen? If someone here on the board were to have one for sale, I may be interested in buying.

In the US they seem to be very cheap. Couple of hundred dollars at best. Usually a lot less. However very rare to find them in nice condition. EDIT: take this to mean that the cheap fairings I've seen in the US are in poor condition. I've never seen a pristine one advertised for sale. This is HUDSON's work. Miracles are possible but here's hard work and meticulous attention to detail. The fairing was beyond repair but the bags were revived along with the bike:

Thank you Wayne for the compliment of working a miracle. But the fairing in the before picture is not the same fairing in the after photo. The fairing that lived under that tree for 35 years had to much deterioration to the inner plastic panel, as in cracks, shrinkage, distortion and just plain brittle. Fiberglass can be repaired with enough work as I saved the saddle bags and trunk box with a lot of work. The replacement fairing also needed a lot of work and came without the mounts. Finding a good fairing with all the pieces and in good condition can be time consuming. As stated on this forum there were probably only approximately 200 made. The windshield in the as found picture is the one sent to Gustafsson for their standard height pattern. I do have another very nice fairing with a complete touring kit that I am still working to get the vinyl strips copied, the first shop that tried did not get close enough for me. I would possible be willing to sell it or the whole kit but am afraid Wayne bid to low for me.
P.S. If you are shipping one of these within the United States, Grey Hound Bus is the lowest shipping with the only set back it will have to boxed and drop off and pick up at one of their terminals.

The photo shows a tinted windscreen that is the optional tall. I have since went to a clear tall. I did like the look of the tinted, But did not like it at night.

Thanks Brian. I'll edit my former re the restoration of the fairing but a miracle of hard work on the bags.
Not made clear in my post HUDSON but I'll fix it up- "Couple of hundred dollars at best. Usually a lot less. However very rare to find them in nice condition". This really meant that every fairing I've seen advertised in the US at those prices was in poor condition. I've never seen them for sale otherwise (outside of Rotary Recycle).
I sold a nice touring set for around $650 but it was not restored. 22 years ago I paid $500 USD for my first touring set from Sam. That was $850AU at the time. I could only do it because I worked for an airline and air freighted the lot for a hundred bucks. Once again, not restored but a clean original set. I think I paid $500 US for another fairing that was in near NOS condition but had no windshield. Once again got a freight deal with a bloke who squeezed it into his shipping container. Otherwise prohibitive to ship internationally.
I'm not tendering one for sale, I was only going to put QUAWK in touch with someone who may have fairings for sale in the US. Perhaps QUAWK you might consider what HUDSON has to offer?
So yes, couple of hundred bucks for something needing a lot of work, quite a bit more for a bolt on ride-away show piece fairing.
PS Brian I was just thinking this morning how well the tint went with the blue paint. But yes, night riding, different story.

Am in the process of replicating the top fairing bracket for my fairing which came with the lower bracket but not the upper one. Although you gave several dimensions of the brackets, I didn't see how thick the material of the originals are. My lower bracket is 3/16" thick (I know, here in the States we're still using inch measurement), but the upper bracket looks to be thicker material. Is it? Possibly 1/4"?

You are correct Quawk, The top is 1/4 inch. maybe we should call you eagle eye. Don't forget to reinforce the lower mount ,too. Tim
