Purchased a new filter and oil. Put in the injection pump cable, exhaust, carb, kickstart, and tightened everything up. Added fluids and decided to attempt to kick start it since the battery is too weak to run the starter. I can't get my RE5 started with the kick start, just too hard. Decided to give this one a try, first kick and it started right up... Ooops... I decided to spray paint the pulolator oil filter silver and it was drying on a box.... Well, the oil pump works... It puked out about a quart before I could shut the engine off.... Put the filter on and ran it for about a minute. I'm running it with pre-mix fuel until I can be sure the injection pump is functioning. Then it started to rain so I wrapped it up and quit while I was ahead.

That must have been pretty exciting. Even more so when oil pumped out on the floor! Good luck on your first test ride. Jeff

Good that you caught the oil as soon as you did. Glad to hear your progress. Reminder to use a fully charged battery as a low battery puts a strain on the wiring.

Andy and all . I've had a unit in to rebuild for a owner and while I was sorting it out got me thinking about Andy's sheared bolts and I was wondering which bolts they were and why?. Both the 3 and the 6 bolts are only (hand tight) low torque settings with brass type washers .They could be easily over tightened and weakened especially the narrow shouldered 3. and when engine heated up and expanded the bolts could well have snapped or come loose if not tightened enough . What locktite would anyone recommend to withstand the heat to prevent them coming loose. ? Also included in the box of parts are 2 oil rings that are NOT RE5 , Dose anyone recognize them as 13b ??

Really not sure why the bolt sheared on mine. I hadn't touched it as I wasn't taking the gear off the rotor.
I would just use my red locktite for those if I was putting them back in... But from experience I'd also try to replace them with new high tensile cap screws.
Those oil control rings could be Mazda. Look on the underside and there should be a shallow locating slot for the spring.
