hi guys actually sold my re5a a few months ago that was first advertised on here, ended up selling for more on ebay and have since had disgruntled possible buyers tell me I sold too cheap so this time am weighing up all options before putting a definite price on it and not sure if I will sell yet as this is an original aussie delivered bike its been partly dismantled and is basically all there apart from fuel tank and 2 indicators been sitting for a long time but motor not seized and was allegedly running when dismantled as previous owner was going to restore speedo shows only 11,347 kms which I would imagine is original I was planning on restoring but have way too many projects so at this stage looking for any offers, advice etc but I may list on ebay if no deal worked out here feel free to email me direct at pinballswanted@hotmail.com, pics below thanks jeff

A complete RE5M sold on Aussie ebay in the last few weeks for around $2000. However, it was in VERY similar condition to what you're showing there.
So I guess that given you've got parts missing, something less than that.

Wow that's a bargain Wayne Done a search but couldn't find it I would've been keen at that time for that price had i bloody looked Won't let this one go for anywhere near 2k though Was thinking more around $3500 but if no interest at that price might persevere with it a bit longer A bit of assembly and clean might do wonders Thanks

Hmmm...
I'm with Wayne on this one.
Jeff, your bike would require a great deal of, frankly, quite expensive work to restore - there's hundreds of dollars in chrome to the parts that aren't damaged let alone the repair work to the damage itself. Then there's the (obvious and expensive) missing parts and replacing the non-stock bits - it all adds up very quickly.
If I was using it as a base for restoration, to make it a viable project without over-capitalising given what a good, running example is worth these days, I reckon you're dreaming at $3500 - $1000 to $1500 would be closer to the mark unfortunately. Perhaps if it was running (reliably) and complete, you'd be much more certain of $3500, but as it is...
Good luck with it anyway.

Clean all the dust off, take some photos of all the bits and post it on ebay. I've got no idea what it'll sell for there and I'm with Wayne and Paul with value, but someone else may pay substantially more due to rarity etc. I bought a registered non runner in much better nick than yours, complete with a disassembled spares bike for $2K but that was 4 years ago and prices have gone up since. I'm still looking at a couple of grand for chrome work on each bike...

Wow that's a bargain Wayne Done a search but couldn't find it Old Gold Motorcycles at Londonderry sold it. I think he has another one at a similar price. Google their number if you're interested. I spoke to them about 3 weeks ago and they still had the other one. Maybe ask them what they're asking. It was roughly similar to the one that sold for around 2K. And with regard to the one that they sold on Ebay for around 2 grand, frankly, I was a little surprised it went for that much. I was very familiar with it and it needed lots of work just like your one.

Hi, That bike was my mates and I took him to the dealer when he bought it new. The guy you bought it from got it from him. Why it got laid up was he come off it in 1978 and broke the blinkers on one side, bent the front guard, and dented the tank, as it had flatter bars. The tank was sent to Adelaide for repairs, business went into receivership and the tank went missing, so into his mums shed it went until the mid eighties. I seen and heard that bike running then(1987) and believe me it didn,t look like that. I tried for many years to buy it but he chose to start pulling it down and put it outside under a tarp for years. It is a shame as I remember it when new.

It is a shame,as it was a very clean running bike with a tank and a few pieces missing. I looked for many years to find one the same ,An unrestored original, same colour,256 earlier by the frame number. It has bought back a lot of memories of my younger riding days in the mid 70,s. Most people think I,am nuts buying it but who cares....!
