Sorry all for very late response .... only come to this forum infrequently. mea culpa
So what's to tell ... Yep, the old RE5 with its SU just keeps on running; no flat spots, no jerkiness, no hesitation, more power (I think), more miles per gallon (I know), less to go wrong, less to fiddle with, not original (I know) .... a win win situation.
Was sorry to read earlier in this post about the RE5 owner in the Isle of Man (with a SU conversion) where it said he died around two years ago. Was this Mick Ruocco? I knew Mick when he ran Drayton Park Motorcycles in North London and the shop (and later his café cum antique shop) was a regular 'tea stop' when out on patrol. He sourced his SU from a 3.5 V8 Rover in a scrapyard; I got mine new from Norton Motors (Richard Negus did the work). I did see Mick's old bike for sale on eBay a month or two back. This RE5 had gone round the clock once and so had over 100,000 miles on this engine. If it was Mick who passed away, I am greatly saddened to read it. David

Kanonkop, I'd really like to know the intimate details re an SU carb......basic type, jetting, needles etc etc.
I have one completely stock bike but my rider is there to play with so I don't mind experimenting.
Would be very interested in precise details.
Thanks.

HI ANDY, I am a new member. I have an RE5 recently restored. However despite everything being checked we can not get rid of the carburettor flat spot. Many have looked at it and I am tearing my hair out. Could you give advice please. I live in Perth. Phone 0417933012. Appreciate any help you can give. Kind regards Mark Jones
