I was expecting the winner to be a five cylinder Honda 125 or some such thing. Without prejudice I would take a GTR any day. When I was a kid living in California I remember seeing one of these with it's rotary valves & carbs in the cases. Not many around when they were new but they had a reputation as fast.
You did a first rate job on yours Lee & I agree that the 250 Suzuki is far more common. Perhaps the judges didn't know what they were looking at

The 250 J was nice but wrong in many respects, wrong bits and pieces etc, Lee's Bridgestone should have took the trophy, (the judges were Stevie Wonder and Roy Orbinson !!)

Just to bring this post up to date on what I restored after selling my RE5s. The 1968 Bridgestone 350 GTR was shown for the first time last weekend at the Bristol Classic Bike Show, didn't win anything though? I suspect the judges didn't appreciate just what they were looking at. Z Wow Ziggy, that is sublime! You was robbed. I had the privilege of riding a mate's Bridgy just recently - what a simply fantastic piece of kit. If I wasn't so Suzuki one-eyed, I'd have one in my collection in a heartbeat. Good luck for next time.
