Lee...
Hate to see you go. You are a genuinely decent fellow. I know that Sam spoke very highly of you.
I wish you the best and the Re5 world is diminished by your departure.
Best Regards, your friend...
Jess

Thanks again for your kind words, I have no RE5 anymore but I can't keep away from browsing this site. I decided to slim down my collection of bikes earlier this year with the sale of my RE5A, this was followed later by the Suzuki Stinger then most recently the RE5M. But I've not been idle as my collection declined, this is a new addition that you may recognize, it's 99% complete but I don't want to give too much away just yet. Z

Had one of those in 1970. Very fast, but very unreliable. The bearing behind the clutch didn't like that dry clutch much.

nearly 3 times the displacement of a Stinger yet still half the weight of an RE5
Reliability be damned, I think that was a nice choice Zig

A friend of mine who is also an RE5 owner has recently bought two Bridgestones. He's pretty excited about them as one is some sort of scrambler.
By the way Ziggy, you would have got a lot more for your air filter but I made a dumb newbie mistake and missed out. Thanks for giving me the opportunity.

Just to bring this post up to date on what I restored after selling my RE5s. The 1968 Bridgestone 350 GTR was shown for the first time last weekend at the Bristol Classic Bike Show, didn't win anything though? I suspect the judges didn't appreciate just what they were looking at. Z

After the bearing behind the clutch went out my college student budget had had enough and last I knew it was in a basement outside Chicago.

Early days for me to report on the reliability of my GTR but I have replaced every electrical component for NOS along with NOS carbs, clocks, bearings, seals and many other parts, surprisingly I've had no issues obtaining parts either NOS or used from the States. There is a forum for Bridgestones just like this one and from what I've read they are well built and very reliable if maintained. I've also read that RE5s are very unreliable but as we know that is not the case. bridgestonemotorcycleparts.com/Z

That is nice! What a great job you did. Judges don't like old bikes that will beat theirs ;D.
BTW, the Bridgestone site is a hoot.

This is the bike that won 'Best Japanese', a Suzuki T250. Full credit to the owner he had done a very good job but without sounding harsh it's a common bike, not one that I'd restore. There were possibly 50 Suzukis at the show (even an RE5M) but only 1 Bridgestone. You could possibly count on one hand how many GTRs there are in the U.K. Which would you rather have in your collection, GTR or T250? Z

Thanks Les, yes I saw your old RE5 for sale priced up at around £11k if I remember right but I don't know how much it went for. See you at Stafford on the Bridgestone stand, oh no I won't just remembered Bridgestones are so rare that there is none, unless they let me display on the tyre stand. Oh no can't do that either as I have Avon tyres fitted. Z
