This is the critically important check valve that bolts to the front of the carby. It permits oil to flow from the metering pump into the float bowl but doesn't allow fuel to run down the pipe into the pump (fatal to your engine if this goes undetected). There's also a check valve at the pump itself that runs to the chain oiler (not a critical component and works in the opposite direction to the carby valve. This alternate will not replace your chain oiler valve). Send HGH770N a PM if you need one or message Peter Paul on FB Suzuki RE5 Owner's Club page. From member HGH770N: Genuine Suzuki check valve currently available (2022). The nipple is slightly larger but the original oil line from metering pump to carby can be induced to fit with a little bit of heat. The banjo is also slightly different but bolts up the the carb with no problems. Alloy is original, brass is alternative:

Timely post, I brought one bike out of hibernation and I may have let the check valve set with some cleaner not rinsed out and my cheeks blow out like Louis Armstrong to unseat it.

Well “SATCHMO” would have probably played a good tune on it.
I have had a request for one to ship to Australia. If anyone else wishes to share the postage let me know and I will arrange contact with each other. I can list on eBay or post via Royal mail Roger

I guess these check valves are prone to failure. Before I bought old bike back from Jess, he had to replace the rotor unit, it failed in a few hundred miles after I sold the bike, the check valve stuck and the rotor seals failed. I would think anyone recommissioning one of these bikes should check or replace that valve.

Just a word of caution, There is not a filter anywhere in the oil injection system. Any small piece of dirt or debris into the oil tank when filling is probably what leads to pump or check valve failure in my opinion. I have opened the check valves to see what could fail and it is possible for a small piece of debris to hold the valve in it open position. Cleanliness and care is of the utmost importance any time the oil tank cap is removed.

I am just finishing another RE and yesterday I tested the check valve it was plugged and I could not get air to pass through, I could feel the plunger inside move with a small wire in the inlet end. I opened this one and the small rubber like o-ring inside had decomposed into gooey pieces. This bike has only 5,000 miles and had sat with gasoline in it for decades. My guess is the fuel had made its way back to the check valve and attacked the seal. The rotor housing was also full of dried gasoline as was the carb. and tank. So I have to agree that these check valves do fail and not necessarily from dirt. I have one of Jess's valves on my other RE and it has worked perfect.

Have sent HGH 770N a similar PM but will ask here also. Have purchased the replacement check valve mentioned in the above post. Am getting around to installing, but looking it over here on the bench as a check before installation should you be able to unseat the ball by connecting a small diameter hose and blowing through it or by inserting and depressing the ball with a small diameter wire/drill bit? Trying to do either of these, it seems like the ball doesn't move the least little bit.
