Rotary Recycle .. A visit to the inner sanctum.
While doing and adventure ride throughout back country USA I had the pleasure of dropping in on Jess Stockwell at his Rotary recycle operation in Tennessee.
I’ve compiled an album of some of the visit. You can see this at, chrisflicks.phanfare.com/motorcycles1/5268866#imageID=138017348 )
We start with the workshop, the test bike, the ultra sonic carb cleaner chrisflicks.phanfare.com/motorcycles1/5268866#imageID=138017402 ) and some project Bikes that Jess and some enthusiastic young fellas are working with. Shock , horror.. its not all standard though!
Then there’s the whole shed full of parts bikes.. all in neat rows waiting for a donor request. chrisflicks.phanfare.com/motorcycles1/5268866#imageID=138017427
His collection room holds all his new parts, and his private collection and memorabilia. There’s even a complete cut-away engine.
Then theres his recent developments:
1) air filters – check yours as you don’t want it disintegrating and sucking into the engine. I tested these against an after market.. I could hardly blow thru that!
2) check valves – a must chrisflicks.phanfare.com/motorcycles1/5268866#imageID=138017548
3) instrument covers ( damn-it forgot to get one or two)
4) electronic ignition
5) Plug adapters – a work of art.
What surprised me was that despite the relatively large investment Jess had made I thought that each of the above had been poorly supported.
At the risk of offending there’s them that say and them that do. The plug adapter is a work of art and now you can use a modern plug to have trouble free running. The check valves. The number sold I could count on my hands. Electronic ignition.. its early days but I used one had to count those sales.
Anyway .. keep the good work up Jess. I’ll keep supporting any new development since it benefit all.
Thanks for your hospitality and the sauna…. Crikey its hot in those sheds in Tennessee summer!!
RIDE: I did get to ride 3 of the rotaries in the work shop. Unfortunately little did I know until after this that 2 of them had electronic ignition!!!!! Sorry I couldn’t tell the difference… well there ya go!
