It's missing one screw on the silencer heatshield, also missing a reflector on the side of the rear light unit and what looks like the battery breather hose has a rather strange route.
You could also query the lack of chrome cover on the lower hose clip but I'm not sure if those were 'compulsory' or not.......the horn wiring looks a bit odd too.
Nice bike though. ........Mick.........kettle738

kettle738,
Yes, those were the 3 flaws I came up with. I think I would count they lower clamp as a flaw. I don't think the chrome clamp was an option.
There are also no mirrors, but I don't consider that a flaw. In some of the RE-5 advertising the bike has no mirrors. Even with its flaws its a very nice bike. I hope mine looks that good when its done.

If you look at the heat shield closely the fault may be the heat shield or exhaust since the bolt holes do not align properly. I have the same problem on my bike.

The missing chrome cover is sort of a flaw in that it is on the wrong hose. But a single chrome cover is not necessarily incorrect.
To my knowledge, only the very early bikes shipped with a complete set of chrome hose covers. Later bikes only had the one (this from Sam Costanzo) as the cost cutting started. But the single cover should be on the waterpump hose (lower hose, rear).
Amazing how a photograph makes a pretty crappy bike look so good. Have a close look at those fork lowers, covered in corrosion. Heat shield is bent and scraped. Right rubber peg holed on the end.
But it is a lovely photograph. I've saved it.

Also - Many re5's at least for the US had red not amber rear signal lenses - not sure about the rest of the world.

^ That's interesting, most that I've seen are amber. The few red lenses that I have seen I just figured they were Euro versions swapped on USDM models in order to be different.

See, now I thought the flexible oil cooler hoses may have been too early for that bike. But, of course, I have no real knowledge and am probably way off base. Does anyone know when the rubber flex lines started? Come on people. I need to get my learnin' on.

OK Wayne, I did notice the hole in the end of the foot peg, I guess that is a flaw and we'll have to deduct points.... We now have 4 flaws.
Looking at the Chrome clamp I see on mine that its on the lower and not on the upper, so it looks like the restorer got them mixed up.
Yes, there is corrosion on the lower forks... Well, if we're going to get picky, how about the speck of rust inside the rear fender on the left side?
And, if we're going for perfection, the front of the instrument panel is a bit oxidized....
My 75 RE-5 has Amber turn signal lenses, front and back.

Indeed, the instruments are oxidized, I did notice that too.
I'm not sure that this is a restoration. It looks like a very neat original bike, perhaps a paint job only.
However, my comment was more about the effect of photography. The bike looks fantastic, initially, but on closer inspection it's surprising how much is masked by a photograph. I wasn't criticising the bike per se.
For the seller, a photograph can be like a make over, for the buyer, see it in the flesh.

hi al the metal pipes were on the very first re5, 1974 .and they had trouble with them cracking, so they changed the oil cooler and pipes,to flexi rubber on the early 75 model to solve the problem of spliting pipes. im changing my oil cooler and pipes on my 74 model to flexy pipes. hope this helps.

Thank you. Just trying to gain as much knowledge (trivia?) about these bikes. One of my other hobbies is judging Corvettes. And the level of detail there is very high. So, it is natural for me to "crossover" the detail thing.
