Don't know if it's of any interest to anybody, but I was guided to this website www.docstoc.com, classic motorcycling and if you scroll down to page 4 there's a piece there regarding an RE5 being raced at Cadwell Park back in 1975/76. Regards Guy

Yes this has been mentioned on a couple occasions within this forum and on other sites.
I'd read a similar article years ago but what surprised me was that I'd described the RE5 sound exactly the same before I'd read the article as sounding like a WW2 flying bomb of the type launched from France to fall on London, nicknamed the Doodle Bug.
I have never witnessed the flying bomb as I'm too young but have seen them on TV. They killed many Innocent civilians.

From an eighties magazine re the RE5, I'm quoting from memory so it's a paraphrase:
"cost of a superbike, power of a fair to middling 350, sound of an out of tune B29, simplicity of a 747, aesthetics of a train wreck, if you bought one of these, wanna buy a bridge ?"
It's only recently that I've been able to follow RE5's whilst being on a "normal" bike myself (allowing me to fully appreciate the exhaust note). And yes, they do sound lexactly ike something out of the skies of WW II. In that respect, the quote is absolutely correct.
