Hi all, just got my 1st RE5. Been sitting many years. It seems there is no spark. When I hit the starter button it sparks once , then no spark as the engine turns over. Any ideas as where to look first?

Start by cleaning the points and checking their gap.

Is the CDI unit making its normal high pitch whine?

Yes, the ignition whines when the key is turned all the way to the right. The bike has a CDI and points?

Yup it sure does, the early ones had two sets of points but one set were later removed. My 1975 re5 has the 2 sets of points. I am trying to get the bike running after sitting for 2 years or so. The previous owner said he had it running,(2 yrs ago), but the points needed adjusting. Do both sets need to be adjusted or was the second set just for a back up?
