Could you now have the only one in the UK with the extensions? An even rarer sight on the UK roads

I know that Suzuki claimed they were saving the panniers but I've often wondered. I ran with panniers and without extensions for some time and it didn't seem a pressing issue but it doesn't hurt to have them.
However there was a design rule stipulation over here that stated that any exhaust must extend beyond any body work. It was meant for cars but I believe, by the letter of the law, applied also to motorcycles (to stop carbon monoxide poisoning of occupants in cars in case the body work through rust or poor joints allowed exhaust to enter).
I had heard that this may have been the same in Canada and wonder if it may have applied in the US and affected Suzuki's decision.
There is another use for those exhaust extensions. They can be packed with rockwool (a housing noise/heat insulator). This in no way effects exhaust flow or performance but does knock 3 to 4 db off.
Have a look in the General board for some pics.
