One man's excellent... The pipe extensions are excellent - someone should buy it just for them! I see this all the time, Wayne, and not just with RE's. I keep an eye on Katanas for sale around the place - there's a couple on Bikesales at the moment that purport to be 'very original' and have asking prices approaching five-figures... They are utter dogs, and the sellers are ignorant, deluded fools. None of them is original in any way - wrong colour, no original fairings or screens or seat-covers, accident damage etc... I wouldn't be prepared to pay much more than three or four grand for them - all together. Their owners are attempting to cash in on Katana's new-found popularity with little thought into the potential (enthusiast's) buyer's mindset and experience. Given this sudden increase in price for so-called original Kats, mine should be worth twenty-grand or more! I can't explain it, drugs (or the lack thereof)?

With a few touch ups, that Katana of yours probably will be worth 20 grand in the not-to-distant.
I'll make sure I speak to you if I ever consider buying one.....I thought that most ebay bike adds were pretty straight up and down, but apparently not.

one of the reasons for bike prices going up is that money speculators that used to buy cars as an investment have now moved into the classic bike market.therefore pushing the price of bikes out of the reach of the genuine enthusiast regards mike

Note the frame number 10078, it is a very early one.

Jeff,
The exhaust tips were part of the touring kit. They were designed to route the exhaust away from the bags (so you did not melt them)
They only made 200 touring kits. They are very very rare. I looked into having some made a few years ago, but again, it was cost prohibitive.
I have no sets available for sale presently... They are one of the rarest Re5 items.
Hope that helps...
Best,

Mike, it looks like you have a couple of very rare parts on your bike then I can't remember seeing any UK bikes in the 70's being fitted with touring gear, was the touring pack just availiable in the US Jess?

The tour pack was available everywhere to my knowledge. It was a VERY expensive accessory... So you overseas guys must just be more frugal than us... Remember, the US was the primary market for these bikes to begin with... A very large percentage were delievered here, unlike the W-2000, which are few and far between. Best,
