I have an opportunity to pick up an OEM carburettor for the RE5 I recently purchased. The bike did not have the original carb and I'm pretty sure it never ran right with the VM Mikuni that is on it. Not to mention that the carb on it was full of water when I picked it up. It's been sitting for a long time, but I'm told it's complete and other than some "dirt dauber" nests on it is in good shape. The owner has not ventured a price and I don't think he has any idea what it's worth. The problem is, I'm not sure what the going rate is either. Anybody got any suggestions?

I'd say that's about the going rate, sometimes the price will be higher for better quality or if there is a bidding frenzy.
With a carb from RR you get a warranty I'd expect.

I went and looked at it. It was corroded, full of mud dauber nests, and hadn't been on a bike in 30 years. One of the plastic bushings had disintegrated. It had also come off a bike they couldn't get to run right and Suzuki sent them another carb. I offered him $60. He said he wanted $100. Considering the condition of the carb I told him I'd pass. For $100 I'll look around or try to adapt another carb. I can get a new Keihin FCR carb like the guy in France is running for about $300-350. At least then I'd know it would work. I don't know where I'd get the bushing for this one even if I could get it cleaned and re-set.

Here's the number to call........931.841.3158......Jess from Rotary Recycle. At least see what he has available. I think you 2 would have some very interesting conversations. It's worth a try.

I tried calling him yesterday while on my way to look at the carb, but it was too early. I'm on vacation until Monday and am in involed in a bunch of other projects around the house which have tied up most of my time. I'm trying to get a compression gauge to check the unit out before I make any major commitments on buying parts. As soon as I evaluate the condition of the proper I'll go from there. It's been sitting for 7 years so a few more days/weeks won't really make much difference. I look forward to talking to Jess. War stories are always fun. :-)
