I'm new to the board, but I have a question. I have an RE5 belt buckle. I'm not sure I want to sell it, but really have no idea what it is worth. I saw somewhere that there was one last year on ebay. Just wondering if anyone knows what it sold for (or if it did.) I've attached a picture of the buckle. I have worked on Suzuki's since January of 1974 and actually worked for corporate Suzuki in the US from November of 1981 to March of 1996. I don't even remember exactly where I got this, but i do remember uncrating, servicing, and test riding the first RE5 we got in in late 1974

It was a commemorative buckle that Suzuki presented to dealers that made a sales quota. It is my understanding they made 100 or so...
They are very rare, but... how many folks want one? I think they are great and buy them whenever I can find them. They are worth whatever someone is willing to pay...
When I see one, I try to buy it as it is a piece of history. That said... I'll give you a hundred bucks for it.
Others may be willing to give you more...
Best,
Jess

I hadn't realised there were so few of them made. I think I'll hang on to it. It's nice to have a piece of history, especially when you lived through it. I remember in the late 70s we were the only dealer in central Florida (Orlando area) that would work on them. We had 6 in the shop at once during one period. When I went to work for Suzuki in '81 one of the first things they made sure I was trained on was the RE5. Maybe that's why the buckle didn't seem that special.
I have one of these belt buckles - I got mine when I attended the introduction of the RE5 at the Las Vegas Suzuki dealer show in 1974. They were given out to each dealer that attended the show.
I didnt relise these where so rare i have one in its box with a descriptive note and iam sure i picked another one up without the box dont recall paying a great deal for them. i always thought they where a rarther crude casting for what was a high tech machine of the day that the buckles where representing. martin
