I am very lucky to have a near mint seat on the better of my two RE5s, unfortunately it's just starting to split on one of the faux seams. As I still can't get my head round the posting of photos on this site, here is a link to a kettle site where I posted photos and the entire question. www.kettleclinick.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1056At present I'm thinking along the lines of an adhesive rubber compound or similar that can be spread thinly over a large enough surface area underneath the split to provide support and prevent it spreading. I have nothing to lose as it's going to split anyway, but before I dive in I thought I would ask if anyone has had a similar problem and come up with an answer. Mick.........kettle738

They all do this it seems. I cut a piece of stout vinyl, worked it under the split, got it all flattend, then used black rubberized super glue trim adhesive to glue one side then the other, pinching it together as I went. It's not perfect, but came out better than I thought, and I didn't have to take the cover off the seat.

Hi, thank you for that, since I posted the question I have been scouting around and bought some of this stuff to try. cgi.ebay.co.uk/McNett-Tenacious-Sealing-Repair-Tape-7-5x50cm-Clear-/220794319611?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item33685df2fbI tried it on my spare split seat cover and I have to say it's brilliant, the downside is I will have to remove the cover to get underneath the split, but I can live with that as the upside is it is very thin, very strong and incredibly adhesive, so much so I think I can make a near perfect repair and reinforce the underside of the opposite seams while I'm at it. Because it is so thin it seems to be invisible from the top side of my test piece and yet I can give it a serious tug and it resists tearing and doesn't let go at all where it is stuck. Subject to a proper test on the decent seat it gets my vote for now. Mick............kettle738
