TT 2011 is just around the corner. I'm hoping to go on the RE, is there anyone else in the forum who will be making the journey? I'll be camping at the football club near the grandstand and pits from 4th till 8th June. It would be good to see another RE5 on the island.

Perhaps see you there Mike. I'm off today (Sat). We get to Douglas at 11pm and staying in Douglas not far from the pit lane. We'll be at the Ramsey Sprint on Tuesday, thought about entering the RE, well at least it should win the Rotary class unless yours or another RE turn up We leave Wednesday morning. Ray

Back from the TT. What a great few days. We did over 500 miles without any problems apart from the appalling sump oil consumption, about 2 litres in 500 miles !!! I suspect side seals may be knackered But still have good compression. Strangely there is no smoke, I suspect the oil burns at such a high temperature it turns to vapour. It was good to see mike500 on his RE and I was amazed to see that our frame numbers were exactly 10 apart, they must have been on the production line on the same day. Both bikes are the same colour and in about the same condition. I was brave and entered my RE into the Ramsey Sprint. Unfortunately they didn't have a class for Rotaries so I had to enter in the Classic Bike Class. I came 5th class beating amongst others a Norton Commando (not the rotary one) and a Piagio scooter.... result Now the bike is in my garage and I will start a strip down and restoration.

Me returning from the end of my run up the Ramsey 1/8 mile. Best time was just over 10 seconds with a terminal speed of 65. I didn't want to thrash it too much Attachments:

That's really cool..!! From what you said, it sounds like the bike could have run even faster if you ran it harder. What kind of times do you think your bike is capable of in the 1/8th mile?

Not a lot faster, an 1/8th of a mile is so short, it suits really light bikes. By the time the mass of the RE is rolling a few seconds and a few yards have already gone. My mate beat my time on a 1960 Triumph 650 Thunderbird... but then it is about half the weight or less

Great to see the pics of you guys at the TT. It's been a long held ambition of mine to make it over to one and I very nearly made it this year but the wife had her sights set on The Lake District so no guesses as to who won out ! We had of course to travel 12000 miles to get there since we live in New Zealand and this was our first trip together to the UK, primarily to visit friends and family. Would have been great to bump into a couple of fellow RE5 owners although I'm sure my wife is eternally grateful that I didn't ! Oh well - I will get there one day. It's on the bucket list.
