For pitted or peeling on the brushed satin chrome of the cylindrical parts I decided to paint them in a metallic silver, and since I've already done this to the fork lowers I continued to the fan shroud and the rear lamp in this same colour. Heres how the lamp housing back portion came out after the unit was restored, and the how fan shroud looks now after sanding, plastic primer, paint and clearcoat. The front instrument housings need to be tackled next. Fully restored tail lamp assy. The fan shroud curing after painting, its now got a brilliant shine compared to the stock flat colour.

I painted one of my rear light cases with a chrome paint in a rattle can then clear coated it, but when the clear coat hit the chrome paint it went a silver/grey colour which looked pretty good.

Thanks for the comments gpdesign and Gary, Steve the rattle can and clear can work too in a pinch but its longevity to the elements is not the best. For a job such as this you really need automobile paint and two part clearcoat so it will give the desired results. The fan motor has now been refurbished and the rubber surround and fan blade has been cleaned and polished since it had what looked like overspray on it. Once the motor paint has cured I can assemble it to the fan etc.
I know this work is not stock but after seeing the satin finish and then my alteration, I actually prefer it in this shade of metallic silver.

here in the UK i use a 2k clear coat in a rattle can and its far better than the normal thin clear coat you get in most rattle cans.

Thank you Sir, now only if the rest of the bike could look that good instantly.
