Why don't you get one on ebay? They come up all of the time. There are three of them on there right now for less than $100.

I did consider buying one, but they're all nearly 40 years old so i think the quality must be borderline.

I had some mysterious electrical problems, and was going to build a custom wiring harness. But due to lack of time, I had one of my buddies build it for me. He said it was a bit tricky, but not too bad. It ran me $300. All in all, I'm happy. The stock wiring was a mess on mine.

How many RE's were used and abused for all of their thirty-odd years? The one's for sale on eBay are more than likely quite alright. A harness, even dirty and grubby, as long as it hasn't been unduly physically stressed or has sat in the blazing sun for all its life should be fine to reuse. Check the connectors if the pics are good enough and if they're alright, and the tubing and taping looks ok, the rest of the harness should be good as well. Unless you really want brand-new everything (and you'll pay handsomely for that privilege if you can't get a mate to do it), save yourself some cash and buy second-hand and make use of the stuff already produced.
