I'm wading through this reassembly. Just doing the points and trochoid oil pump and noticed that the new oil seal that I got sent (part #17 in the pic below) is thicker than the original. This means that spacer #16 sits proud in the clutch cover casting over which the gasket and pump outer case sit. It needs to be at least flush as far as I can see. Has anyone come across this already and how did you handle it ? It seems to me that the spacer is nothing but a spacer and therefore I could machine a mm or so off it with no harm done. Any thoughts ? Wayne

If you were to machine the spacer to accommodate the thicker oil seal then you are going off standard, personally I'd get the right oil seal as they are cheap and easily obtainable.

if you measure the old seal any decent bearing and oil seal supplier should be able to match it for you.im lucky here as we have a firm called the bearing man and they are usually able to supply me any bearing or seal from stock if not useually within 2 days regards mike

Okay, I don't remember where the seal came from but it was either Suzuki or RR. So I sort of assumed that it was simply no longer available.
I'll take the original seal down to my bearing bloke and see how I go.
Thanks, Wayne

I've been to my bearing supplier and he tells me that 6.76 mm thickness seems to now be the industry standard for this oil seal (original is 5.65). That is, he can't help me.
I can do a net search I guess. I am loathe to move away from standard as Ziggy warns but may have to. The seal guy suggests trimming the outer edge of rubber on the seal. He showed me diagrams and how a small amount wouldn't affect the performance.
Something to bear in mind if you're rebuilding. Perhaps worth trying to track down the original NOS part before you start.

Any news on that seal?
It's all apart gain, engine will be checked over as well.
I had the seal installed the correct way, but while I am at, I wanted to change that seal this time as well, if there is s substitude.

No further to report on that seal ZEBULON. In AU at least, the original size is no longer available, only the thicker version. I machined down the spacer #16 and that fix has been working in a bike for many years. I did manage to get a couple of NOS ones and fitted one to my A so no mods necessary there.
You can try finding an NOS, trim the rubber down on a new one as advised by the bearing/seal shop or machine down the spacer.
