Can anyone suggest a place to have my seat restored to original specification in the U.K. I am looking for a first class job. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Roy

You can recover your seat yourself if youre good with working on such things. If the pan is good but rusty you can have it prepped and powder coated, then clean up the sponge and cover or get a new cover and fit it up. This all depends on how good your seat is at present and if you are confident to do this work.. Heres an example of some similar work I did recently, this was an old seat that was dirty and had a ripped cover on it I got from ebay. Its been stripped and cleaned and the parts washed up. Then I did a minor repair of the sponge at the front and a new cover with piping front and rear was fitted and stapled into place, much harder to do than the clip type cover of the older bikes. The mounting plates base metal discolouration is the only reminder of just how bad this seat really was. I've got it ready to be bead blasted and repainted to renew the total effect of what will now appear to be a brand new seat. Total cost is less than $90.00 so far in this seat.

Hi Roy,
Did you get it done in the end? My seat cover split last weekend and, having removed the old one, I now find the pan is rusty along one edge under the cover and some of the clips that hold the cover in place have rusted through so I'm looking for either a repro pan or a restorer who can fix the old one.
Ta Rick

Hi Roy I used Leightons in Birmingham. They did an excellent job considering the seat pan was extremely corroded and almost split in two. It was welded, repaired and painted. The cover looks exactly as original and the added some foam to the saggy parts. I'm very pleased with the result. www.rk-leighton.co.uk/Ray

Just realised this thread was 3 years old, Roy has probably got his seat sorted by now. But for anyone else wanting a seat repair they are good.
