Just discovered something new about RE5 parts. Bought an NOS set of throttle cables. How many types are there for an RE5? Well, as it turns out, at least two.
This is probably the Euro version. The pull cable is about 11 cm shorter than the U.S./Aus version- probably for the sportier handlebars fitted to Euro bikes (measured from the steel tip which caps the black outer cable to the top of the knurled cap on the “splitter” tube it’s 60.5 cm vs 71.5 cm).
So I’m out of pocket with a cable that’s too short on a restoration for someone else.
If there’s any U.S./Aus owners out there or others who’ve fitted sportier handlebars and want to do a swap for an NOS pull cable (splits into 3) because this one will be a neater, tighter fit, I’d be interested.
As long as the chrome bit that screws into the switchblock is in good condition, not rusted or pitted, I’d be happy to pay shipping both ways.

You could try here www.venhill.co.uk/ and if they should make them for you sell the ones you have on eBay. NOS original cables are hard to find now.

All NOS stuff is getting harder and harder to find... Apparently, if you have it (NOS)... you can ask whatever you want... I believe if all else fails, I can supply you with a good used one... (if your poor little NOS lovin' heart can stand it... ) Best,

Thanks Ziggy. I'll try them for NOS, you never know.
It might come to a used one Jess (as a tear slides down my cheek). This is for Luis' bike. You offered me some NOS a while back but I was trying to contain costs. This bike is badly weathered and just how much do you spend- especially when I'm making decisions for someone else. I thought that they'd clean up but in fact, now that I'm up to fitting wiring and cabling, I found it frayed.
The incorrect cable came from a bloke over here and we only got the cowhorn bars, so I assumed that they'd fit. But I've had an offer of help in that Mick Taylor will take them off my hands.
Thanks, will let you know if I need them.
