Really! Good to know. It feels horrible now, but everything's perfectly new. Looking forward to a good lever. Thanks guys.

There's an interesting corollary to that method that I recently learned McB. This is a test for brake hose condition under the assumption that you've bled it all you can and it's still spongy. We used it on AshCan's GSX (my old one) on advice from GS resources and it certainly worked pinning down the hoses as the problem in that bike:
Pump the lever a few times, and then tie the lever in tight with a zip-tie and leave overnight.
The next day, untie and if the sponginess has now left the lever without doing any bleeding, then your brake hoses are at fault.
Pressurising the system overnight takes all the expansion out of the hoses and takes them to their "limit". When you try the brake it should now be firm. This will of course go back to being spongy fairly quickly but it will show you if you need hoses. If it's still spongy, the problem lies elsewhere.
