Interesting. The factory engineers did note in interviews that the main reason for setting the red line at 7,000 was because of significantly increasing oil consumption. That is, the engine itself could take it well beyond 7000 but I don't think they trusted average joe with that information given he may not be that diligent with checking his oil.
