ziggystardust as you can see by my tag I have bikes from the 70s, 80s & 90s. With a few more not listed. E-bay is a great resource for those bikes. And you’re right things do come up time to time that you can’t get from RR.
None of the other bikes have the support and ease for parts as the RE-5. The amount time spent searching and waiting for parts to come along. Then bidding with three others drives the price up. If you win half the time the piece is crap compared to the description and picture.
It is so nice to just order what you need. I don’t have a restoration going so I’m not even close to RR bigger clients. But just the same I hope they will be around when I need them.
Most people don’t realize Sam did not need any income from Rotary Recycle, but put in the hours out of the love of doing it. Whereas Jess has to work a full time job, and then comes to put in the hours at Rotary Recycle. Plus needs to make enough to support the cost of doing business. Pay rent, heat, electricity, and help. Jess in my opinion does it both for the love of it and to carry the torch of a dear friend.
I guess the point of the post was there is no guarantee of Rotary Recycle to stay profitable to stay in business, but with the collective support of us there is a hell of a better chance. I for one do not want to have to rely on eBay for parts for my RE5. I think you’re right most people support him in theory, and times are tough, but how many really support him? I can’t answer that only Jess can.
Buy the way nice looking bike!
