Yes I agree that ebay has a lot to answer for especially now with prices usually being higher than the true value for rare motorcycle parts in many cases, but on the other hand the bikes I've restored could not possibly have been completed with out eBay and the Internet as most parts came from the USA. You can't stop progress and I for one am grateful to eBay. I have attended the national shows and rummaged through boxes for RE5 parts only to find nothing significant. Sometimes long forgotten parts come up on eBay that otherwise would never have seen the light of day ever again.

yes this is true ,i have bought parts of ebay and all have been what they where described as ,some coming from Austrlia ,austria and of course the US and i made a very helpfull contact with guy from the german suzuki owners club through ebay .but ithink the hiden cost now of selling on ebay has put alot of people off selling the less valuble items .then again the chances of picking up an re5 for a few hundred pounds at stafford type shows are well gone .like you say time moves on and progress is made (but not much on my re5A).

Yes you are right, what eBay charge can come as a surprise as I have experienced and it can put people off selling, also the cost of having a part delivered to the U.K. is shocking and I don't mean the shipping cost, i.e. the NOS RE5M headlight bucket that sold the other day, I wanted that and the price it went for was fair but to get that to the U.K. after the government has added tax at 17.5%, the customs with their charge and then a handling charge makes you wonder if it's really worth it? The price is now doubled, but sometimes one has to bite the bullet and pay the price knowing that you have paid way too much for it. So while I'm on my soap box what really p#sses me off are the sellers that rob honest buyers through excessive shipping costs.

its even worse when an item is damaged.as when they ship a replacement out you end up paying customs duty on the replacement part as well.then you have the hassle of trying to get the duty back

Forgot to mention, we also pay tax on the postage paid, if we were French we would be burning cars in the street now in protest.

WTF, why wouldn't you get what you need from Rotary Recycle?
Everything is guaranteed, Fair prices, available now, and you support some one that will be around to sell you parts in the future, not to mention some one you can call when you need help!
Ya we're not all rich and you may find a deal on ebay, but with shipping and all the crap you end up with that looked great in the photo, you still end up behind.

Nothing wrong with Volvos Mike, I got one! Just WTF are you on about Shavron? Some of us including myself have other 70s bikes that RR does not support and regarding supporting RR I think you will find that most owners on this forum do support Jess but there are some NOS items that occasionally come up on eBay that even RR does not have. Don't tell me you have never bought an RE5 part off eBay.

Yeah Glyn from Liverpool, I've had parts from him. I was up at Aber ( hard for me to pronounce never mind spell it fully) a few weeks ago. My RE5s are getting ready for hibernation now, just might get another few ride outs, if I'm up that way next spring I'll let you know, I've never seen another RE5 on the road. Lee
