Here's my bit of info to add, Hmmmm, I bought two RE's 18 months ago, one M and one A model (I thought), they were both low millage and original blue paint wise. The M model had twin points and the A single points as they should. But the guy who was selling them had changed the rear light and indicators from one to the other as he was trying to make one good one out of the two. To me the blue A model seemed completely factory, but I've also heard some dealers fitted the latter instrument panel and lights to the M models to try and get them to sell and Suzuki supplied like a kit to do it too ? You do see the odd M model complete instrument cluster un-boxed come up on ebay too which could be the removed original M model parts from the retro fit???

In 1975 the overwhelming consensus of the M styling was that it was "ugly" and other things I won't say here. Suzuki sent teams to dealers here in the US to retrofit M models sitting on the showroom floor to the more sedate A style. The technicians were told to destroy the parts Over the years, a few of these not destroyed have popped up. I spoke to a fellow once that said he worked at a dealership, and the parts were thrown in the dumpster behind the shop... He came back that night and did a bit of dumpster diving to retrieve the parts. I personally uncrated one a few years ago, that was an M that was ready for shipping when the change occurred at the factory. They pulled the bike from the crate, and swapped parts and buttoned the crate back up. They then stenciled A on the side of the box. This is also why many A bikes have been red or blue in the past. I have personally pulled many tanks that were blue or red and then had blck sprayed over the top of the parts. A litle history... ;D Best, Jess
