Hi Steve,
Just checked the part numbers for the rear inner mudguard (or Body, Rear Fender Front as the parts book calls it).
The GT750A variant is Part No. 63112-31001, with the B model listed as 63113-31002. Not sure what the difference is between the two.
Just to make it interesting the GT750K & L models are listed as 63112-3100, with the GT750M as 63110-31001.
The RE5M is listed as 63110-31001, with the A model listed as 63112-37000. From the image in the parts book the difference between the two items is the way the Rear Chrome mudguard connects. On the M model the 2 No. connecting bolts are orientated on the top face of the fender, whilst on the A model the bolt holes are in the side faces.
One thing that I am sure of is my GT750A has a plastic unit, whilst my RE5M has a metal one. I am positive of this because it was one of the first items stripped from the RE5 that I took to be powder coated.
Whether the different variants are interchangeable is something that I am nut sure of. Going by the parts numbers they are not, but I am sure that someone on the board may have managed to alter one type to fit another.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Mick J

GT 750 models came with both plastic and metal inner mudguards. There is no real reason as to why or when for the years, it just happened that way. For 1976 and 77 models however, the mounting points switched at the fender joint from the top frame hoop to the lower front sides, so there was a frame mod as the fenders were changed and the inner mudguards for these two years. Some 76s and 77s had metal inner guards some had plastic, still with no real reasoning behind it. Today rear fender units comprising of both pieces are being remade by Suzuki again, this time its got a plastic inner mudguard and the 76-77 fender mounting points.
