Just wanted to introduce myself to the rest of the guys on the board.
I am based near Nottingham in the UK and I'm currently restoring a US import RE5 M model. (wanted to do an M because I personally prefer the stying to the later A version - think its the spherical indicators and instrument binnacle that make the bike special, not to mention the rotary powerplant!).
The bike was imported to the UK in 1992 and then sat in the back of the workshop of a local bike dealers who specializes in Honda Goldwings.
The guy had purchased the bike to restore but lost interest. After a few weeks of pestering him to sell to me he decided that he would never get round to restoring and we struck up a deal!
According to the US `Certificate of Title` the bike is a 1975 model and originates from Walnut Street, Montclair, State of New Jersey.
This is my second restoration project - the 1st was a 1976 GT750A UK model which I am glad to say turned out really well. The only thing that did not look well after the restoration was my bank balance!!!
I am restoring the bike to `as factory new` specification but will be incorporating updates such as replacing the solid oil cooler lines with the later flexi type. The colour has also been changed from orange to Firemist Blue, as I personally like this colour and it will match my GT750 which is finished in Maui Blue.
Aiming to have the bike on the road for summer 2011.
Regards,
Mick J
