After several months of neglect I decided to put a few parts on the RE5. I fixed an oil leak at the shifter input shaft and replaced the rubber bumper under the rear of the gas tank (Thanks rotary recycle!). Also finally got around to verifying the oil metering pump is working, and found the nipple on the OMP end of the line was broken. Nothing a torch and solder can't fix! Now my mind is at ease knowing I get oil injected into the float bowl of the carb again! I think my only part left to replace is the seat cover. It's been sitting in my kitchen for months just waiting for me to do something with it.
Took her out for a spin and the cool weather this time of year in Phoenix is great for RE5's! I need to get that bike out more often, really is fun to cruise on.
Just had to share my renewed excitement.

It really is a nice looking seat cover, I enjoy having it proudly displayed in the kitchen

Don't you keep bike parts in the kitchen? RE5 ran great tonight!!! Got her up to 80 on the highway, no hesitations, smooth, no oil leaks, it was perfect!!! Right up until the light 500 feet before my house when everything just shut down, lights, engine everything like a big short or something Put about 30 miles on before that so timing couldn't have been better. new project for the week it looks like.

Check your main fuse underneath the seat.
Next, the main harness connector under the tank. They sometimes can come unplugged.
Lastly, check your ignition switch connector in the headlamp bucket.
Best,
Jess

Oh, and why didn't you tell me it was so easy to put the seat cover on? I decided I should do that just now and I think it took all of 10 minutes. It looks fantastic!
