The first time I saw an RE5 being ridden was around 1976/77 at Brands Hatch racing circuit in England. My wife [then girlfriend] and I used to go there to watch Barry Sheene.I parked up my Suzuki GT550K,next to a Kettle, among the rest of the 70's bikes,Kawasaki triples,XS650'S,RD Yamahas,Honda CB'S etc.I heard a strange off-beat exhaust note and coming towards me was a red RE5M.The loping exhaust note with the space-age styling blew me away. That memory has stayed with me and now 34 years later that bike is still the only RE5 I have ever seen on the road.Never seen another when I have been riding mine.We have an annual charity run every year in Cornwall, called The Martin Jennings Run which I have taken my RE5 on.Approx. 800-1000 bikes and so far only one RE5.Waiting for the day when I meet another owner on the road.Cheers.

Same applies to me, I have never seen an RE5 ridden on the road apart from mine.
The same ones can appear in national shows year after year and this can become a little boring.
One day I hope to park up at a motorcycle gathering next to another RE5.

Seems strange replying to Ziggy as I'm a huge Bowie fan but your right. We go to the Stafford show in October and the bike show at the NEC and the rotaries are the same ones. They are certainly fantastically finished but I always wonder if they are ridden. My RE5M definately isn't concours but clean.Still got original Bowie posters from the early/late 70's[Ziggy,Thin White Duke tc].Cheers,A LADD INSANE.
