Took the re5 in the van to sunny Wales. Decided to go for my maiden ride. Started her up and she revvs up on her own... frustration.... I can see that the carb has had a mod to the cables, I noticed one blanked off. Any ideas before I tear the carb apart.

That happened to me once when hot in the desert and mine was the port valve not quite closing from the
play in the return cable.

Having one blanked off is not a bad thing (it'd be the return cable). As long as everything is free and working smoothly "single" cable (or pull cable only) operation is fine. On the face of it, I don't think it'd be your problem. I'd pull the tank off and the alloy inlet horn that connects to the carby. Check the cable runs are reasonably smooth and not stressed due to excessive bends etc. Check section 15 of Bulletin 9. It goes through cable adjustment. Ignore the angles quoted, just make sure that with relevant stop screws out (idle stop and throttle grip block screws) the primary butterfly closes 'til it completely blocks the primary throat and at full twist on the grip it is full open (parallel to the airflow). Adjust cables per that section of Bulletin 9 to make sure you get this. Pull off the port valve cover and make sure the PV is free in its movement and is against its idle stop when the throttle grip is fully closed (PV seizures are not uncommon on long standing bikes). There are also places cables can get hung up and cause issues (AMHIK!! as recently as last week!). Where the Port Valve cable adjuster is on the cable (roughly between the rear of the carb and the generator cover), there are two joins in the cable. Two spots where one cable's "male" can pull out of the "female" section and then get hung up, caught on the edge of the female and prematurely open the valve. Check that all joins are correctly made and nothing is hanging up and do that by separating them and then making sure the male cable slides all the way into in the female, a visual check may not be enough. See if this solves the uncommanded acceleration. Take it for a ride. Worry about fine tuning cables and angles later. Bulletin 9 can be found here: Read the 2nd post in this thread and find the RE5 Service Bulletin PDF: re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/379/re5-parts-service-manuals-online
