Fitted my modern manufacture primary chain sourced from the OEM (group buy via member Kanonkopdrinker). It's nice and taut, took it for a short ride of about 40 miles. It's not a huge difference, but definitely discernible. Smoother through the pegs and, as my bike has developed handgrip vibration over the last few years, I noticed a little smoother in that area as well. As I was unable to replace the sprockets this time around, it may improve as they all bed in. Mind you, couldn't visually tell the difference between my 50,000 klm sprockets and my 1500 mile ones. However, if I do a top gear roll on through the "grinding vibration band" ~3800 rpm, starting low 3000's into the fours, it feels just as guttural as it churns through that area. But continuous cruising in that area (which unfortunately matches approximate highway speeds, it's better and a little smoother overall). Just by the by (and thank you member Timpa for the reminder), I changed my final drive chain and sprocket a few weeks ago. It made more difference to overall smoothness, particularly through the pegs (but had no effect on vibration through the hand grips). It's easy to forget your final drive chain doesn't last forever.
