My favourite youtube engineer explaining the return of the Rotary Engine to Mazda. Very interesting, very clever in a number of ways (including variable valve timing in a rotary!?) and an ideal application for a Rotary (more or less constant rpm):

The article mentioned the Rotary would run @ 4500 RPM.
It just so happens that our bikes get down the road very happily @4500 4750 RPMs, too.

If they are generating electrical energy from the Wankel they should take advantage of some remaining energy in the exhaust with a turbogenerator.

At one time I thought Hydrogen may be the long term answer with EV being an interim. But I've read a few articles which seem to indicate that Hydrogen as a general fuel source is very problematic logistically and also has many issues for use in IC engines. So many issues that it won't be practical.
But I've also read Toyota raced a hydrogen powered ICE recently (and if they're putting money into it, one wonders).
Hard to tease out the truth these days.
Toyota's Hydrogen effort:

I liked the journo's likening the look to polished sea glass. About right.
