This thread built from pictures and information supplied by member HGH770N who's had his hands full with numerous rebuilds. The older they get, the more critical failures we'll see but just to show all is not lost: This unit was received by Roger and looked like it had been run and stored with ingested water and corroded side plates. Checking the oil on the latest bike and see this: Not what you want! Fortunately the fault lay with corroded core plugs and not a cracked housing. Roger notes, for a change, the core plugs are standard off-the-shelf 25mm! Repair done, reassembly well on its way. Shiny new side, corner and apex seals: Another one saved!

Good job Roger!
I am changing all of these plugs as a standard practice the last few years. Although they often look great from the outside, it's the inside of these plugs that rust away ;-)
The good thing is that they are readily available from the automotive bussines.
Cheers,
Michel
