I bought a bottle of Bars Leaks on Ebay. This being the type with the meltable pellets. Regarding necessity, it was specified by Suzuki as an addition to the coolant because it has friction reducing additives to lubricate the water pump bearing. That bearing will require some machining in the event that it wears out. There are some posts in this forum that show the repair.

Further to FRAMITRON's good advice, if you see the state of many of the RE5 waterpump tip bearings, you'll understand the need for the Bar's Leaks. It's specified in the owner's manual but as the bikes changed owners, this necessity would have been long forgotten. This is pretty common, a worn tip bearing and worse, it can destroy the end of the pump shaft which is much harder to both source and replace: Damaged, ovaloid tip bearing: Damaged waterpump shaft:

I've had coolant leakage from the weep hole on a couple RE5's. It pretty much went away once I service the cooling system and added a small amount of "Bar's leak water pump lubricant".
Years ago, I went through the process of replacing the seals and bearing for the water pump. Only to have it show coolant leakage again, until I added Bar's leak.
