I had responded to member "Zebulon" question about oil consumption with some incorrect information.
I had referenced the service manual as a source of information about the Blowby Gas Pressure Regulator. I have three service manuals and only one of them has that information, and the ones on this site don't have it either. I'm not sure why that is the case.
The information I was referencing can be found on this message board under "Restore and Repair' / "Resources" / "RE5 Parts and Service Manuals Online"/
" Suzuki RE5 Fundamentals" Page 17 "Oil Seals" and page 23 "Gas Venting System"
If the check ball is not sealing well ( scratches or carbon build up) or a weak spring there will be a lack of pressure to keep the 4 seal rings pressed to the sides of their grooves to keep the oil away from and overwhelming the side oil seals. Another clue to this being the oil consumption problem is there will be excessive oil showing up in the air filter box though the vent hose because more blow by gas will be vented out the breather hose instead of being retained at the seal rings. Page 23 "Gas Venting System" does not describe this system very well but does show the plumping route. This has been my personnel experience.
The ball is not metric in size. It is 15/32 of an inch ( .468 ) 12 mm would be ( .472 ) A fresh ball and a look at the spring will probably help.
The early springs were .024 wire diameter and the later springs were .028 wire diameter.
The spring and check ball can be accessed on top of the engine case under the 17mm hex bolt inboard and behind the cooling fan motor.
