I've seen the recommendations for adding bar's leaks to the cooling system but what type are people using? Several formulas offered nowadays My Suggestions are look for the liquid bottle that says heavy duty and specifically says water pump lubricant . Add 1/2 oz. to a previously clean system as the bars leak acts as a bit of a scrubber to loosen any previously not removed clogging. My suggestion is Prestone conventional coolant and distilled water. Add equal amounts of the pellets and liquid of bars leak after engine coolant is circulating with a fan in front. I have a bottle of bars leak that does not say water pump lubricant and will not use it. Use what you want but this combination is proven satisfactory for me. Tim

Isn't "bar's leaks" one of the band aid products from the 70's for blown head gaskets and the likes??? I remember using it in my youth when I really should have just pulled the head off

They recommend it in the service manual. I used the bars leak water pump lubricant and sealer and it solved the minor leakage I was getting from the water pump weep hole.
