Has anyone that has an original Suzuki fairing tried making their own replacement windshield? I've read the other fairing related posts and have seen that Gufstasson Plastics have them for sale in both stock and extra tall height, but wondered if anyone has tried making one themselves.

I was about to do that myself Quawk and had spoken to member GOANDY who has experience in this area. He's made a more complex replacement screen for a modern BMW.
So short answer is yes and send Andy a PM about it. He may reply, he monitors these pages regularly.
However, I found a small fibreglass place that someone recommended who quoted me $150AU (it was going to cost around $7-800AU for the Gustafsson product delivered here). Too cheap to to do it myself when I've got half dozen other projects on the go.
They used my original broken windshield which I'd glued back together as a template and given the cost, it was a simple process.
I was shortly going to post pictures. It's a nice job.

Wayne, So did the shop make an exact copy of the stock windshield, or did they make it extra tall for you? Seems like I remember another post of yours mentioning you would consider the extra tall version from Guftassons. Do you know if they used acrylic or polycarbonate? Have also forgotten the conversion of your dollars to U.S. About how much in U.S. dollars is $150AU? Had your original actually broken (like in half) or had it just gotten a long crack in it? I found a fairing on Ebay and was successful bidder but it does not have the windshield with it. To save on shipping I am going to drive to pick it up. It's about 2 1/2 hours from my location. In the pics it certainly is no show piece, rough actually, but maybe a starting point. It would be great if you could post a pic. While on the fairing subject, do the locks on the storage compartments happen to use a genuine Suzuki key? I would guess not but thought I'd ask you since you have one. It does not have a key(s) for the locks either. Full of questions aren't I.

My windshield had shattered for reasons I'm embarrassed to admit. I glued it back together and gave it to them to use as a template. I haven't compared the new to old to see how exact it is except to trial fit it to my fairing (it'll will fit very nicely).
I thought about it but left it original height.
I can ask them about acrylic/polycarbonate but AU is on easter holidays at the moment.
$150 AU is about 115 US. The big killer in getting an original Gustafsson was both the exchange rate and the shipping. Post out of the US these days is ridiculously expensive to Australia.
The storage compartment locks are very small and incredibly simple. They are not Suzuki keys. So simple I took the lock to a "handy man" kiosk which are common in Australia (Mr Minit) and he made me a key from blank key stock using a file and a dremel. It'd be child's play to an actual locksmith.
Just back from 5 days on a bike so give me a few days and I'll post windscreen pics and a pic of the key.

See below QUAWK. It's Acrylic to answer your earlier question. The pic below is the old standing behind, new in front. Not an exact copy but very close. The old cracked windshield looks slightly wider but it's an illusion. The new has slightly more curve which will bend out when I secure it to the fairing. If I hand bend it to the curve of the original the width matches. The new one may be 1 to 2mm taller. Looks more in the photo but an artefact of the photographic "stage". The only real difference is where the two arrows are. The new one is slightly narrow in this section as the bend is more curved vs more angular on the original.
