I was all prepared to jump on my RE just a couple of days ago, when I noticed that it was marking its territory (leaking fluid) onto my shed floor more than usual...
A quick check of the offending fluid found that it was coolant, and I traced it back to the top of the proper unit.
My immediate thought was panic - did I have a cracked water jacket? Fortunately it was only a perished coolant overflow reservoir hose where it feeds back into the proper unit housing.
I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed that this hose has only lasted for 46 years - don't worry, I'll be writing a very tersely-worded email complaint to Suzuki forthwith.
Notwithstanding, it might be prudent to keep an eye on this hose (if it's never been replaced) as the fitting in the housing is below the height of the filler cap, which means if the hose splits it would be possible to lose a fair amount of coolant even if the bike isn't running.
It took me all of a half-hour to replace, and there's now no more fluids on my shed floor.
I might go for a ride.

Ha, no I won't actually be sending any emails.
I'm still disappointed that Suzuki's water hoses only last three decades though.
