As I'm tearing my bike down, I'm finding most my bolts are rusty and dirty. Anyone have tips on making them look like new again? Some I may end up ordering new, but I can imagine that would get pretty pricey. Anyone used those home plating kits, or have them sent off to get nickel plated?

get stainless steel bolts i believe there are some kits out there. I just sent to bolt shops with all my old bolts and they basically just replaced them all with stainless steel. They are not cheap but will last forever.
The lady that was behind the counter at the bolt shop helped me out heaps when i told her its to restore a old rotary motorbike!! sold them at the price of a normal steel bolt!!!!!!!!!!

OK, we have some pretty good bolt supply shops around here. Guess I'll just slowly replace em.

I just hit all the hardware on my RE5 with a wire wheel on a drill motor or a bench grinder and then sprayed them with a can of chrome spray paint, it looks just like silver cad plating. And it is not expansive to do. Now the chrome bolts are a norther story if they are not to bad I chucked them in a drill motor and spun them on a rag with polishing compound and that worked well.
