Plimpton: Dont buy a cheap mower battery. I did that years ago. Found one on Ebay for $49.00. It was a flooded cell no-name battery manufactured you-know-where. It slowly leaked acid from the housing near the battery terminals. I didn't notice it till months later. Needless to say it made a mess of my wiring and battery compartment. After that it was high quality AGM for me.
I also have the YIX30L-BS. Works great. Hudson is right, the YIX30L-BS will fit in the bike with the tray (assuming no other spacer is between the battery and the tray). But its a *very* close fit, at least on my bike. One must carefully push it past the downward protruding side cover hanger so that the hanger doesn't get bent. In fact I think that I even slightly bent that hanger up by a millimeter to get it to fit. Perhaps variations during the frame tube fixturing and welding process at the factory might create too much obstruction for some batteries (?). Not sure though...
And the extra space that the battery gives you in the battery compartment could be used for extra tools (if you build a little holder for them. Which I haven't done yet... But I certainly like the idea of a socket handle, extension and some of the commonly used sockets being on the bike with me...)
And to second what Hudson said about maintenance charging of lead acid type batteries: Yes, its important to maintain its charge to full capacity. If I understand correctly, Essentially if it's at full capacity the battery will last for a very long time. But if the voltage drops even by a small amount, then chemistry begins to erode the plates. Only a small amount of erosion at first but more damage occurs as the voltage drops. I was always a bit too lax about AGM batteries because they are much better than flooded cell batteries and lost one expensive YIX30L-BS due to neglect as I was busy with other things in life. Hadn't checked it in at least 8 months and it wasn't fully charged even when I put it away... Lesson learned!
